* WHAT...Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected. * WHERE...Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon, especially the northern and eastern slopes of the Spring Mountains. * WHEN...From 1 AM Saturday to 4 AM PST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds may impact trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Peak winds will occur between 5pm and 10pm. * WHERE...Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties. * WHEN...Until 1 AM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds may knock down burned trees in the Davis Fire burn area.

* WHAT...For the Lake Wind Advisory, southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and waves 2 to 5 feet for Lake Tahoe. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area. * WHEN...Until 4 PM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the Wind Advisory will expire, strong winds are expected to continue within the area through tomorrow. The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas: NWS Reno NV - NVZ002 (Greater Lake Tahoe)...CAZ072 (Greater Lake Tahoe (CA)) * WHAT...HIGH avalanche danger is expected to occur in the backcountry Friday night and may continue through Saturday. * WHERE...Central Sierra Nevada Mountains between Yuba Pass (Hwy 49) on the north and Ebbetts Pass (Hwy 4) on the south, including the greater Lake Tahoe area. This does not include ski areas and highways where avalanche mitigation programs exist. * WHEN...In effect from Fri 09:00 AM PST to Sat 06:00 AM PST. * IMPACTS...A powerful storm with large amounts of new snow, rain, and strong winds may cause widespread avalanche activity in the mountains. Avalanches large enough to bury people or knock down large trees could occur in backcountry areas. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions may occur Friday night and Saturday. The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low humidity, which is in effect until 7 PM PST this evening. * Affected Area...Fire Weather Zone 274 Southern Mono County, Fire Weather Zone 421 Southern Sierra Front including Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties and Fire Weather Zone 429 Lahontan Basin including Churchill and Eastern Mineral Counties. * Winds...South to southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph. Wind prone areas may reach gusts of 80 mph. * Humidity...As low as 12 to 18 percent. * Duration...3 to 9 hours of critical conditions. * Impacts...The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.
