Central Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico... Northeastern Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * Until 730 AM MDT. * At 614 AM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 4.75 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Portales, Dexter, Hagerman, Texico, Elida, Elkins, Kenna, Bottomless Lakes State Park, Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge and Oasis State Park. This includes the following highways... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southeast New Mexico, including the following areas, Central Lea County, Eddy County Plains, Guadalupe Mountains of Eddy County, Northern Lea County and Southern Lea County and western Texas, including the following areas, Andrews and Gaines. * WHEN...Until noon MDT /1 PM CDT/ today. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A band of slowing moving thunderstorms is expected to develop tonight as a weather system approaches the region with additional rounds of thunderstorms possible through Saturday morning. With multiple rounds of thunderstorms possible, a few area may receive torrential rainfall resulting in flash flooding. In southeast New Mexico, Chaves County Plains. * WHEN...Until 9 AM MDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Widespread 1 to 3 inch rainfall totals are expected, with isolated amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible. There will be potential for areas of flash flooding and lowland flooding, especially in vulnerable areas of Chaves County.
