Special Weather Statement

Special Weather Statement issued September 7 at 3:36PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK

A low pressure system in Siberia has brought a front to the West Coast, producing rain, gusty winds and elevated water. The strongest south/southwest winds will be near gale force from St. Lawrence Island to the Bering Strait as well as Eastern Norton Sound today before weakening on Sunday. Sea levels look to rise to about 1 to 2 feet above the normal high tide line south of the Bering Strait and 1 to 3 feet above the normal high tide line north of the Bering Strait tonight and Sunday. The highest water will be near Kivalina and Red Dog Dock. Another system will follow on Monday with a similar track and southerly winds will ramp up once again. This will keep water levels elevated 1 to 2 feet above the normal high tide line through Tuesday Stay tuned to the latest forecast updates at www.weather.gov/afg
