SAFETY and DATA MESSAGE

Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe. Do not rely soley on data presented here or other third-party websites - always check your official national and local weather service agency website, socials, radio and/or TV stations for making critical decisions related to weather events.

Please carefully read each posted Warning and Alert as it relates to the area(s) being affected. We may provide a wider range of issued severe weather warnings for surrounding cities and counties, so some alerts may not directly impact this location. Hydrologic Outlook

Hydrologic Outlook issued November 21 at 11:41AM AKST by NWS Anchorage AK

ESFAFC Recent abnormally cold temperatures have caused many rivers and streams across the Mat-Su, Anchorage, and Kenai areas to rapidly freeze up. This has caused ice dams to form on some waterways leading to rising water levels with some localized overflow flooding occurring in vicinity of ice dams. Currently, overflow from Chester Creek has inundated the Chester Creek trail tunnel under Arctic Blvd. Anchor ice build up and ice dams on Peters Creek, Ship Creek, Campbell Creek, Little Susitna River, and Willow Creek are leading to near bankfull conditions. Water levels will continue to fluctuate until the cold temperatures conclude or when ice cover is more complete upstream. Additionally, above freezing temperatures aloft forecast through Saturday are aiding in snowmelt at higher elevations, increasing water levels downstream. For additional information and the latest river forecasts, please visit: https://www.weather.gov/aprfc/.
