* WHAT...A long period south swell will result in an energetic surf zone and increasing risk of sneaker waves and rip currents with breaking waves up to 10 to 14 ft. * WHERE...San Francisco, Coastal North Bay Including Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast Counties. * WHEN...From Tuesday evening through Thursday evening. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. Large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. Sudden immersion in cold water can result in cold water shock even for the most experienced swimmers. Cold water shock can result in dramatic changes in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure, greatly increasing the risk of drowning in rough open waters.

* WHAT...Snow accumulations of 2 to 8 inches west of Highway 395 with higher amounts up to 1 foot along ridges. Ridge winds gusting as high as 65 mph. * WHERE...Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties. * WHEN...Until 4 PM PST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds will be tonight into Tuesday morning.

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet above 7000 feet, 1 to 4 inches at lake level, and 4 to 12 inches west of Lake Tahoe. Ridge winds gusting as high as 90 mph. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph and wave heights 1 to 3 feet on Lake Tahoe. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area. * WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines due to the expected heavy wet nature of the snow. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds will be Tuesday morning.

Ridge winds gusting as high as 95 mph. * WHERE...Mono County. * WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday and Tuesday commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines due to the expected heavy wet nature of the snow. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds will be Tuesday morning.

Winds gusting as high as 50 mph. * WHERE...A portion of central California. * WHEN...Until 4 PM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected above 7000 feet. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet from 7000 to 8500 feet, 3 to 5 feet along the crest, and around 6 feet at the highest peaks. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Eastern Sierra Slopes. * WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel will become difficult to impossible due to snow and blowing snow. Roof damage is possible due to the weight of heavy snow. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow levels will begin between 6000 to 7000 feet this morning and increase to 8000 to 9000 feet by this evening then fall to 6000 to 7000 feet again Tuesday evening through Tuesday night. Peak snowfall rates could approach 2 inches per hour.

Up to 1 inch possible between 2500 to 3000 feet. * WHERE...Northern Trinity. * WHEN...Until 4 PM PST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be very difficult. Tire chains may be necessary if travelling through mountain passes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow impacting Highway 3 at Scott Mountain Pass.

* WHAT...Additional snow accumulations between 6 to 8 inches above 4000 ft and 10 to 16 inches above 5000 ft. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Portions of south central Siskiyou County above 4000 feet, including Snowmans Summit and Dead Horse Summit along Highway 89 and Mount Shasta Ski Road. * WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There will be a break in snowfall through the day today as temperatures remain above freezing, but temperatures are expected to drop again tonight with additional snowfall expected.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected for elevations above 5500 feet. Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet and up to 3 feet along higher peaks. Wind gusts as high as 50 mph. * WHERE...West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County/Lassen Park. * WHEN...Until 4 AM PST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Snow-covered roads, chain controls and travel delays are likely which will result in very difficult travel at times above 5500 feet. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Periods of moderate to heavy snow through early Wednesday morning. Snow levels 5000-5500 feet this morning, rising to 6000 to 7000 feet in the Sierra this afternoon, then lowering 4000-5000 feet throughout the day on Tuesday. 2 to 5 inches of snow possible down to around 5000 feet.

Air Quality Alert

Air Quality Alert issued November 24 at 10:05AM MST by NWS Phoenix AZ

The Imperial County Air Pollution Control District has declared a mandatory wood burning curtailment for residents within the Calexico area for Monday, November 25, 2024. The declaration of a Mandatory curtailment, when forecast indicate elevated levels of fine particulate air pollution in the region, is issued to protect the public health. Smoke from wood burning can cause health problems. Breathing high levels of pollution from wood smoke can cause breathing problems (including asthma attacks), worsened lung and heart disease symptoms, and may even increase emergency room visits and hospitalizations. The Mandatory Curtailment rule prohibits the operation of any wood burning appliances during the curtailment period. This prohibition does not apply to cookstoves and those devices exclusively gaseous- fueled.
