Winter Storm Warning issued November 23 at 3:49AM PST until November 23 at 10:00PM PST by NWS Reno NV

* WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning today, heavy snow. Snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches above 7000 ft, and up to 2 feet at the highest peaks. Southwest winds gusting as high as 55 mph. Ridgetop gusts up to 100 mph. For the Winter Storm Watch late Sunday night to Tuesday, heavy snow. Snow accumulations of 3-8 inches below 7000 feet and 1-3 feet above 7000 feet. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area, and Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, until 10 PM PST this evening. For the Winter Storm Watch, from late Sunday night through Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. AVAREV The following message is transmitted at the request of the U.S. Forest Service Sierra Avalanche Center. The Sierra Avalanche Center in Truckee has issued a BACKCOUNTRY AVALANCHE WATCH for the following areas: NWS Reno NV - NVZ002 (Greater Lake Tahoe)...CAZ072 (Greater Lake Tahoe (CA)) * WHAT...HIGH avalanche danger is expected to occur in the backcountry Friday night and may continue through Saturday. * WHERE...Central Sierra Nevada Mountains between Yuba Pass (Hwy 49) on the north and Ebbetts Pass (Hwy 4) on the south, including the greater Lake Tahoe area. This does not include ski areas and highways where avalanche mitigation programs exist. * WHEN...In effect from Fri 09:00 AM PST to Sat 06:00 AM PST. * IMPACTS...A powerful storm with large amounts of new snow, rain, and strong winds may cause widespread avalanche activity in the mountains. Avalanches large enough to bury people or knock down large trees could occur in backcountry areas. * PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Very dangerous avalanche conditions may occur Friday night and Saturday.
