...SNOW FOR THE KLONDIKE HIGHWAY... .Warm air aloft and southwesterly flow is expected to move over colder air at the surface. This overrunning is expected to bring accumulating snow to the northern panhandle, specifically the Klondike highway. Warmer air close to the surface is expected to move in and allow for a switch to a mix of rain and snow. * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. The combination of heavy snow and wind may reduce visibility to one quarter mile or less at times. * WHERE...Higher elevations of the Seward Highway, including Turnagain Pass and Summit Lake. * WHEN...From 3 AM to 4 PM AKST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. White-out conditions expected. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Warmer air may mix in and transition precipitation to a mix of rain and snow or rain by Tuesday afternoon. Rain falling onto snow covered roadways may create additional hazards. Expect snow totals on the lower end of the given range near Summit Lake.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. East to southeast winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches. Visibilities one quarter mile or less. * WHERE...Thompson Pass. * WHEN...From 6 AM to 6 PM AKST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. White-out conditions expected. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will both contribute to low visibilities. Snow levels will rise through the day, reaching 1200 feet or higher Tuesday afternoon and leading to a transition to rain at lower elevations.

A STRONG SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE PANHANDLE BEGINNING TUESDAY, BRINGING WITH IT GUSTS OF WIND UP TO 40 MPH ALONG THE COAST AND FOR SOME COMMUNITIES IN THE SOUTHERN PANHANDLE. THE STRONGEST WIND GUSTS WILL BE ON TUESDAY. PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ARE FORECAST THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY, WITH THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION EXPECTED LATE TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY AS AN ACCOMPANYING ATMOSPHERIC RIVER FOCUSES ON THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PANHANDLE. ANOTHER SYSTEM RACES NORTHWARD INTO THE PANHANDLE ON THURSDAY BRINGING ADDITIONAL RAINFALL, WITH THE GREATEST RAINFALL TOTALS ONCE MORE EXPECTED FOR THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PANHANDLE. PRECIPITATION TOTALS ON TUESDAY RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES NEAR SEA LEVEL. PRECIPITATION TOTALS ON WEDNESDAY WILL RANGE FROM 2 TO 5 INCHES NEAR SEA LEVEL, AND TOTALS ON THURSDAY WILL RANGE FROM 0.5 TO 2 INCHES. MORE PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS. Visibilities reduced to one-half mile. * WHERE...Bristol Bay, Dillingham north and west. * WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 10 AM AKST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Very strong winds could damage property and cause power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow and blowing snow expected from Dillingham to Koliganek and areas north and west this evening. Snowfall amounts of up to 5 inches possible, with higher amounts expected at higher elevations. Areas south and east, including King Salmon and Iliamna may see a brief period of snow initially but will transition quickly to all rain. All areas will transition to rain by late Tuesday morning.

Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Blizzard conditions primarily expected along the coast from Kipnuk to Tununak, including Nunivak Island, but may reach as far inland as Kasigluk. From Bethel east, snow accumulations of up to an inch are possible.

Very strong winds could damage property and cause power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds are expected to shift to north- northeasterly this evening, pulling in colder air and dropping snow levels. Temperatures hovering near or just above freezing will allow for a dense, wet snow. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds will result in visibility reductions to one- quarter mile.

A strong storm system moving toward southern Alaska will bring strong gusty winds and light rain to the western Kenai Peninsula. Here is what to expect: * East to northeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 35 to 60 mph, strongest in the Kachemak Bay area, the hills north of Homer, and through channeled areas of the Kenai Mountains. * Winds will peak between 3am and 9am Tuesday. * Rain will develop in the Kachemak Bay area around midnight and spread northward to the Soldotna and Kenai areas overnight. Precipitation could start as snow for areas north of Homer, but rapid warming will lead to a quick changeover to rain. Areas of light rain will linger through mid morning Tuesday. * Temperatures will warm into the lower to mid 40s by Tuesday afternoon and remain above freezing for most of the region through Wednesday afternoon.
