...SNOW FOR THE KLONDIKE HIGHWAY... .Warm air aloft and southwesterly flow is expected to move over colder air at the surface. This overrunning is expected to bring accumulating snow to the northern panhandle, specifically the higher elevations of the Klondike Highway. Warmer air close to the surface is expected to move in and allow for a switch to a mix of rain and snow near sea level. * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Klondike Highway above 1500 feet. * WHEN...From 9 AM to 9 PM AKST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow is expected to start out lighter and fluffier on Tuesday before becoming more wet and heavy by Tuesday evening. * WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. Additional snow accumulations of up to 3 inches along the coast. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Visibilities reduced to one-quarter mile. * WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta, west of Bethel. * WHEN...Until 1 PM AKST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Blizzard conditions will continue this morning before gradually winding down this afternoon.

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of up to 15 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph on the northern end of Turnagain Pass. Snowfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour in Turnagain Pass between 6am and noon. The combination of heavy snow and wind may reduce visibility to one quarter mile or less at times. * WHERE...Higher elevations of the Seward Highway, including Turnagain Pass and Summit Lake. * WHEN...Until 4 PM AKST this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Strong winds could cause tree damage. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Warmer air may mix in and transition precipitation to a mix of rain and snow or rain by Tuesday afternoon. Rain falling onto snow covered roadways may create additional hazards. Expect snow totals of up to 9 inches for Summit Lake.

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected. East to southeast winds gusting as high as 45 mph. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches. Visibilities one quarter mile or less. * WHERE...Thompson Pass. * WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST this evening. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. White-out conditions expected * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will both contribute to low visibilities. Snow levels will rise through the day, reaching 1200 feet or higher Tuesday afternoon and leading to a transition to rain at lower elevations.

Visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow.

A STRONG SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE PANHANDLE BEGINNING TUESDAY, BRINGING WITH IT GUSTS OF WIND UP TO 40 MPH ALONG THE COAST AND FOR SOME COMMUNITIES IN THE SOUTHERN PANHANDLE. THE STRONGEST WIND GUSTS WILL BE ON TUESDAY. PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN ARE FORECAST THROUGH EARLY FRIDAY, WITH THE HEAVIEST PRECIPITATION EXPECTED LATE TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY AS AN ACCOMPANYING ATMOSPHERIC RIVER FOCUSES ON THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PANHANDLE. ANOTHER SYSTEM RACES NORTHWARD INTO THE PANHANDLE ON THURSDAY BRINGING ADDITIONAL RAINFALL, WITH THE GREATEST RAINFALL TOTALS ONCE MORE EXPECTED FOR THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE PANHANDLE. PRECIPITATION TOTALS ON TUESDAY RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 INCHES NEAR SEA LEVEL. PRECIPITATION TOTALS ON WEDNESDAY WILL RANGE FROM 2 TO 5 INCHES NEAR SEA LEVEL, AND TOTALS ON THURSDAY WILL RANGE FROM 0.5 TO 2 INCHES. MORE PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
