Beach Hazards Statement issued September 26 at 5:36AM PDT until September 30 at 4:00PM PDT by NWS San Diego CA

* WHAT...Elevated surf of 3-5 feet with sets up to 6 feet through next Tuesday. Astronomical tides of 6.0-6.5 feet through Sunday, rising to 6.5-7.0 feet Monday through Wednesday leading to minor tidal overflow. * WHERE...Beaches of Orange and San Diego Counties. * WHEN...Through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Minor tidal overflow and minor coastal erosion expected during high tides. Additionally, elevated surf will lead to strong rip currents. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High tides will approach 7.0 feet each morning Monday through Wednesday. These water levels in combination with elevated surf provides a window for moderate coastal flooding on Monday and Tuesday, especially along south and southwest-facing beaches.

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves due to elevated surf. There is a risk of moderate coastal flooding especially Monday and Tuesday. * WHERE...Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches. * WHEN...Through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. Moderate flooding of sea water is possibly over some vulnerable low-lying coastal areas, especially around the late morning high tide, including over beach parking lots, bike paths, and harbor walkways. Moderate beach erosion is likely. Isolated damage is possible. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Coastal Flood Advisory products will likely be needed for Monday and Tuesday.

Minor tidal overflows possible especially Monday and Tuesday. * WHERE...Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast and Ventura County Beaches. * WHEN...Through Wednesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore. Pooling of sea water is possible around high tide at beach and harbor areas (including Santa Barbara Harbor). Enhanced beach erosion is also possible. No significant damage is expected.

When a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, the storm may produce damaging winds, large hail, dangerous lightning, and heavy rain. In some cases, heavy rainfall produced by a severe storm can also lead to flash flooding. Do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. The water depth or fast flowing water/mud/debris from a flash flood will make road conditions unsafe.
