Wet snow falling well inland from Lake Superior has led to slushy road conditions in some areas well inland from Lake Superior. The snow will mix with rain and change to all rain by daybreak. Nonetheless, if traveling early this morning, be prepared for the possibility of encountering slushy, slippery road conditions. Drive at reduced speeds.

Snow overnight has led to slushy, snow covered road conditions in some areas well inland from Lake Superior. The snow will mix with rain and change to all rain at most locations before sunrise. Light wet snow accumulations of up to 1 to 3 inches are possible in the high terrain of Baraga County tonight. These may result in sloppy roads and hazardous travel conditions overnight. Snow transitions to rain showers by Thursday morning. Be prepared for slippery roads overnight. Slow down and use caution while driving through snow.

Lake effect snow showers are expected to develop late this evening and especially during the overnight hours. Some light accumulations of generally an inch or less are possible by daybreak, mainly across grassy surfaces. There is a greater chance of travel impacts on Thursday as an area of widespread snow affects the area. Slushy snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected Thursday. It will also become windy on Thursday with west to southwest gusts to 30 to 35 mph. The combination of snow and windy conditions may result in limited visibilities at times. With initially warmer ground conditions and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, confidence remains low in how much snow will accumulate on roadways, but motorists should be alert to the possibility of some slick conditions during the period of greatest snowfall rates later Thursday morning through mid to late afternoon. The snow is expected to change back to rain late Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening.

Slushy snow accumulations of an inch or two are expected Thursday. It will also become windy on Thursday with west to southwest gusts to 30 to 35 mph. The combination of snow and windy conditions may result in limited visibilities at times. With initially warmer ground conditions and temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, confidence remains low in how much snow will accumulate on roadways Thursday, but motorists should be alert to the possibility of some slick conditions during the period of greatest snowfall rates from midday Thursday through late Thursday afternoon.

Ongoing rainfall across northern lower Michigan is expected to mix with and eventually flip to a wet, sloppy snow through the evening into the overnight hours, favoring areas away from the immediate Great Lakes shorelines of northern lower Michigan. Snow will likely struggle to stick to surfaces initially before temperatures fall to near 32 degrees later tonight, which may allow any ongoing snow to stick. A general 1 to 3 inches of accumulation will be possible, particularly across the higher terrain of north central lower Michigan. As a result, roads may become slushy and slippery for the morning commute on Thursday. Extra time may be required for the commute, and remember to take it slow in ice and snow!
