Special Weather Statement issued July 5 at 6:04AM CDT by NWS Brownsville TX

The combination of hot temperatures and high relative humidity percentages will result in potentially dangerous very hot conditions across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley this afternoon and early evening. Heat index values are expected to range between 106 and 110 degrees with isolated areas briefly touching heat indices of 111 or 112 degrees for a short period of time. If working outside today, be sure to drink plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned locations. Be sure to check on elderly and infirm neighbors and relatives, provide shade and fresh water for outdoor pets and livestock, and check the backseat of your vehicle when transporting children.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of the Panhandle of Texas, including the following county, Gray. * WHEN...Until 730 AM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 329 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... The combination of warm temperatures and humid conditions will produce afternoon heat index values of 103 to 107 degrees. A few locations could briefly experience heat index up to 110 degrees. Those spending extended time outdoors could be susceptible to heat related illness if not taking proper heat precautions, such as drinking plenty of water and taking frequent breaks out of the sun and heat. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles.

These rip currents can become life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.

...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Louisiana...Texas... Sabine River Near Deweyville Additional information is available at www.weather.gov. The next statement will be issued Friday Morning.Friday evening at 1000 PM CDT. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Sabine River near Deweyville. * WHEN...Until further notice. * IMPACTS...At 25.0 feet, Lowest roads beside the river flood around Deweyville and subject to being closed. In addition, low-lying roads in Southwest Beauregard Parish are flooded including Robert Clark Road. Flooding occurs on the south side of Niblett Bluff Park with access roads to camp houses cut off around the park. Access roads to the river in Northeastern Orange County become flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 8:45 PM CDT Thursday the stage was 24.6 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 8:45 PM CDT Thursday was 24.7 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 24.6 feet just after midnight tonight. - Flood stage is 24.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
