Special Weather Statement issued November 18 at 4:18AM EST by NWS Albany NY

The combination of prolonged dry weather, west to northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts 20 to 25 mph, relative humidity values between 35 and 50 percent and dry fuels will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread today for portions of eastern New York, including the eastern Catskills, Capital District, Mid- Hudson Valley, and the Taconics. An emergency statewide burn ban is in effect until November 30th for New York. No burn permits will be issued at this time. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose cigarette butts.

There is an elevated risk of wildfire spread today with NW winds 10 to 15 mph and gusts around 20 to 30 mph this afternoon. Minimum relative humidity values will range from 35 to 45 percent. New York state has declared a burn ban through November 30. The burn ban prohibits the starting of outdoor fires for purposes of brush and debris disposal, as well as uncontained campfires, and open fires used for cooking. Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose cigarette butts.

NW winds Monday morning around 10 mph with gusts near 15 to 20 mph will increase to near 10 to 15 mph by Monday afternoon with gusts around 20 to 30 mph. Minimum relative humidity is forecast to range between 30 and 45 percent Monday.
