* WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown Wilmington and Inland Brunswick Counties. * WHEN...Until 4 PM EDT this afternoon. * IMPACTS...US 421 North at USS North Carolina Road is flooded with about one half foot of water. River Road about a quarter mile south of The Cape Boulevard may be impassable and residential roads on each side of River Road south of River Road Park experience minor flooding. Water Street is flooded from Red Cross Street to Orange Street with depths over a foot south of Market Street. Flooding worsens on Point Harbor Road, US 421 Truck near Carolina Beach Road, Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek, and Old River Road at Route 133. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on average tide conditions. Patches of dense fog have developed over a large portion of central North Carolina, with visibilities at many locations dropping briefly to a half mile or less. Fog may be worse in low areas and near bodies of water or wetlands. This fog is expected to persist through mid morning. Drivers this morning are urged to use extra caution. Slow down, maintain extra distance ahead of you, and be prepared for sudden drops in visibility.

Patchy dense fog has developed along portions of the Highway 17 and I-140 corridors in Pender and New Hanover counties. Patches of locally dense fog can be expected in these areas, reducing visibilities on roadways.

Locally dense fog will persist across the mountain river valleys and the foothills through the morning, reducing visibilities anywhere from one quarter mile to a few hundred feet in spots. When driving in fog, motorists are urged to slow down to a safe speed, allow extra separation distance with surrounding vehicles, and to use low beam headlights. Fog will burn off after 9 AM this morning, but may linger in some of the mountain valleys through 11 AM.

Patchy dense fog, reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less, is expected across the mountain valleys and portions of the North Carolina foothills this morning. Motorists traveling along I-40 between the Tennessee border and Hickory, along I-26 through western North Carolina, as well as other roads and highways across the region, should be prepared for sudden deterioration in visibility. Slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow for extra distance between yourself and other vehicles if dense fog is encountered. The fog should lift by 1000 AM.
