Please carefully read each posted Warning and Alert as it relates to the area(s) being affected. We may provide a wider range of issued severe weather warnings for surrounding cities and counties, so some alerts may not directly impact this location. This is done to help with preparing for severe weather that may overlap or be heading towards Cherokee County.

Coastal Flood Advisory issued November 14 at 9:43AM EST until November 14 at 11:00PM EST by NWS Wilmington NC

* WHAT...Up to one foot of inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. * WHERE...The lower Cape Fear River including downtown Wilmington. * WHEN...Until 11 PM EST this evening. * IMPACTS...The lowest portions of Battleship Road and USS North Carolina Road observe minor coastal flooding of about one foot in depth. In downtown Wilmington, several blocks of Water Street observe shallow flooding from one half to one foot in depth. The low-lying areas along River Road and adjacent residential roads, south of River Road Park, will begin to flood. Route 133 at Little Mallory Creek may begin to flood. Check with local officials for any road closures or impacts. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Affected areas listed are based on average tide conditions. Additional locations may experience flooding during periods of heavy rainfall, high winds, or other factors.

In Virginia, Virginia Beach. * WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until 1 AM EST Friday. For the Coastal Flood Warning, from 1 AM to 1 PM EST Friday. For the High Surf Advisory, from 3 AM to 6 PM EST Friday. * IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be around 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses. Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles. Large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet will result in dangerous surf conditions. Do not enter or approach the water due to the risk of being swept away.

Numerous roads will be impassable under several feet of water and vehicles will be submerged. Portions of Highway 12 may be impacted with ocean overwash in Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands.
