At 737 PM PST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Orick, moving northeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph and pea size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Hail and wind could impact Highway 101, making it difficult to travel. Locations impacted include... Orick, Trinidad, and Westhaven-Moonstone.

* WHAT...Snow expected above 5500 feet. Total snow accumulations through Friday between 6 and 12 inches, with locally higher amounts around 15 to 18 inches over the peaks. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. * WHERE...West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada and Western Plumas County/Lassen Park above 5500 feet. * WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Friday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slick travel conditions, snow covered roads, chain controls, and travel delays. These hazardous conditions may impact commutes today through Friday. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow showers will persist through this evening, with a brief break tomorrow morning. Additional periods of scattered snow showers are expected midday Thursday through Friday. Snow levels are around 5500-6000 feet, and will lower to 4500-5500 feet by Thursday night.

Large breaking waves of 12 to 15 ft with up to 18 ft along steep NW facing beaches. * WHERE...Coastal North Bay Including Point Reyes National Seashore, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast Counties. * WHEN... 7 AM Thursday to 11 AM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Large waves can sweep across the beach without warning, pulling people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches. Sudden immersion in cold water can result in cold water shock even for the most experienced swimmers. Cold water shock can result in dramatic changes in breathing, heart rate and blood pressure, greatly increasing the risk of drowning in rough open waters. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Northwest facing beaches are most at risk for large turbulent shore break and strong currents.

For the High Surf Advisory, from 7 AM Thursday to 11 AM PST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. * WHAT...Large breaking waves of 10 to 15 feet, highest on west and northwest-facing beaches. There will be widespread dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...San Luis Obispo County Beaches and Santa Barbara County Central Coast Beaches. * WHEN...Until 9 PM PST this evening. * IMPACTS...There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Minor coastal flooding is possible on west and northwest-facing beaches a couple of hours on either side of the high tide this morning, which is around 720 AM PST.

* WHAT...Wet snow above 6500 feet. Snow accumulations 1 to 4 inches on the west side of Tahoe and up to 2 inches on the east side of Tahoe. Winds gusting up to 50 mph. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area. * WHEN...From 1 PM this afternoon to 11 PM PST this evening. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions may impact the Wednesday evening commute, especially across Donner and Echo summits. Very strong winds and snow will significantly reduce visibility as times. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Lake Tahoe waters will be rough and hazardous with wave heights 2 to 4 feet.
